Mind - Kamui Fujiwara (Collected in Virgin)
DDL
Afterword by Kamui Fujiwara
This piece is about 16 years old. It was written while I was working under Alice Publishing, a joint project with a fellow drug user. One of us would describe the story and the other would draw it at the same time while we were taking a hit. And while the story itself was not very coherent, its visuals were sick. It was meant to be a mini-comic, but was put on hold until now, when it was finally finished and digitised.
I later teamed up with Keiichi Koike to create something based on a similar concept. We called it SPINOZA—that name is pretty well known now. It was published in two full-colour volumes. Mugen Kanzaki also worked with us. Who is he, you ask? If that name rings a bell, you might just be a huge otaku. Until recently, he was involved with manga covers (for Masamune Shirow and the like), but we haven't heard much about him lately… He was a pretty shady guy, but did he end up crossing over to that other world? He was also an employee of Alice Publishing, back when Kentaro Takekuma and the three of us were working together on Gekijo Gekijo. It was a great magazine packed with articles on drug culture, but because it was sold in vending machines not many remember it. I feel a little bad for those who bought it, but at least a few people got some enjoyment out of it (those formidable late night wanderers).
